This exhibition is a collection of works by emerging, midwestern artists Baylee Schmitt, Jess Schwarz, Leland Waters, and River Berry. Softer presents a variety of works in multiple mediums including crochet, weaving, latex, quilting, and ceramics that investigate the intimacy of material, space, and memory. These delicate works take nostalgic aesthetics of childhood whimsy turning them into plush abstractions of memory and experience. Each artist grapples with their personal reality through highly process based work and installation, often subverting traditional craft techniques to express these narratives.
