In this performance I begin seated in the gallery hand embroidering patches on to a duvet. During the act I am covered by the piece at first while stitching and embroidering. The duvet begins to progressively cover my body until I lay beneath it on the floor, entirely hidden. I rise with the duvet, wearing it like a cape for the rest of the evening. By caring around the weight of the comforter I illustrate the connection we have with one another through passed down objects and techniques like embroidery as well as the effort it takes to leave these material legacies behind. I am examining my familial legacy of craft, specifically how fiber and tactility outline my childhood. The finished piece becomes a physical manifestation of the effort put forth by women to preserve these techniques and traditions while also caring for those around them.
